Chinese Name: 牡丹皮

TCM: Listed under “Herbs that clear Heat”, included in “Herbs that cool the Blood”, acrid, bitter, slightly cold Paeonia suffruticosa (mu dan pi) enters the Heart, Kidney and Liver channels. It clears Heat and cools the Blood, clears Fire from deficiency, invigorates the Blood and dispels Blood stasis, clears ascending Liver Fire, drains pus and reduces swelling.

General: For the treatment of eruptive febrile disease caused byvirulent pathogenic heat with symptoms such as nose bleed, blood in the sputum or vomit or subcutaneous bleeding, hematemesis and epistaxis, night fever, anhidrosis, amenorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea, sores and carbuncles, traumatic injuries.
