Listed under “Herbs that release the Exterior”, included in “Cool, Acrid Herbs”, the bitter, acrid and cool Man jing zi enters the Bladder, Liver and Stomach channels. It clears Wind and Heat affecting the head (headache) and red, painful or swollen eyes; drains Dampness and expels Wind to treat stiff and painful joints caused by Wind-damp painful obstruction.
History
Vitex trifolia first appeared as a medicinal herb in “Collection of Commentaries on the Classic of the Materia Medica” (ben cao jing ji zhu) by Tao Hong-jing (494CE).
