TCM: Listed under “Herbs that release the Exterior”, in “Warm, Acrid Herbs”, Notopterygium incisum, root and rhizome (qiang huo) enters the Bladder and Kidney channel. It releases the exterior and disperses Cold relieving headache stiff neck and sore shoulders, unblocks painful obstruction and alleviates pain.

General: Notopterygium root and rhizome is used orally in formulas to treat common cold with headache and generalised body aches, headache and rheumatic disorders. It has been shown to have diaphoretic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic actions.
