TCM: Listed under “Herbs that drain downwards”, included in “Purgatives”, bitter, cold Rheum palmatum enters the Heart, Large intestine, Liver and Stomach channels. It drains Heat and purges Fire, relaxes the bowels, transforms Dampness, cools and invigorates the Blood and dispels Blood stasis.
General: For the treatment of constipation due to excess Heat, delirium and restlessness, tenesmus due to diarrhoea, red eyes, mouth ulcers, swollen and painful gums, expectoration of blood, nosebleed, amenorrhoea due to Blood stasis, postpartum Blood stasis, jaundice, acute urinary tract infection, trauma, skin disease and burns.
